The story about the past, which throws light on the various periods of the country, is known as its history. Texts written for special occasions are of importance are known as inscriptions. Notices, memorials and texts for publicity inscribed on stone, metal or other hard materials are generally recognized as inscriptions. Most of the inscriptions/epigraphs are done on stone or on copper plates. The epigraphs have helped in building authenticity of Indian history.

The Inscription Gallery exhibits the inscriptions on stone and copper plates found in Madhya Pradesh. Prominent among these inscriptions include the citation, grants issued by Pratihar and Parmar rulers; inscription of Parmar ruler Narvarman found from an ancient lake at Amera (Vidisha), inscription on a copper plate of Pratihar ruler Malayavarman found at kurera (Shivpuri). Besides inscriptions in Devnagari script, Sanskrit and Naskh script, Arabic language are also exhibited in the gallery.
