Collection of stamps has been a favorite hobby for many and throws a light on the days gone by. One can get historical, political, scientific and cultural knowledge from stamps.
The first stamp was issued in Britain on 1 May 1840, having a cost of 1 pence. The figure of Queen Victoria was printed on it. The smallest stamps were issued in Colombo in 1863and largest stamp was issued in 1931 in China.

There were three hundred stamps in India, issued before 1947 of figure, which has increased upto 2900 till now. There are three types of stamps, one used for public postal work, second for Government postal work and third revenue stamps.
