Manoti (1959-60)
Dr. R.Y. Trivedi assisted by Dr. Y.S. Wakankar excavated at Manoti,
Dist. Mandsaur during 1959-60. Three trenches-one long and two short-were
laid. The trenches showed seven successive periods. The early pottery
fell into the following groups:
- Black-and-red ware with paintings on the inner surface, recalling
the corresponding ware from Ahar and Nagda.
- Red ware with black paintings, the spouted bowl of which could be
compared with that from Maheshwar.
- The same ware of fine fabric, in shapes akin to those of the late
phase of Lothal.
- Coarse black ware.

After an initial destruction of the site by flood, the habitation was
protected by a huge mud-brick wall. Another major flood, indicated by
a thick sandy gravel, once more affected the site, and after it came
a change in culture.
The succeeding periods belonged to the early historical to medieval
ages
