SARANGPUR ( 1985-86)

Stratified Deposits

A small scale excavation by the Directorate of Arch. & Museum; M.P. govt. was conducted at Sarangpur, distt. Rajgarh. In all three trenches viz. SRP I and SRP II and SRP III were laid at the Gadi or Gandhi Teela, situated on the right bank of the river kali Sindh, a tributary of the main river Chambal. The sequence arrived at were: Janapada, Mauryan, Sunga Satavahana, Naga - Kusana Gupta-Ksatrapa, paramara and muslim-maratha. Typical antiquties were collected from concerned layers.
